The facility will be a centre for world-class engineering, quality, medical device manufacturing, and other science-based professionals to produce life-changing technologies, including the FreeStyle Libre 3, a system that automatically delivers real-time, up-to-the-minute glucose readings, with the smallest and thinnest wearable glucose sensor that provides unsurpassed 14-day accuracy and optional glucose alarms directly to smartphones. This enables people with diabetes to live the best and fullest lives they can.At Abbott in Kilkenny, you can shape your career as you help shape the future of healthcare.This is how you can make a difference at Abbott:The Vision Engineer will be supporting the sourcing, qualification and maintenance of computer vision systems that enable machines to interpret and understand visual information. The Vision Engineer will investigate issues related to machine vision.***Please note we are building a talent pipeline for Vision Engineer positions due to start in late 2024***ResponsibilitiesProvide input to designing the overall architecture of the computer vision system to meet specific requirements and objectives. This includes selecting appropriate hardware components and software tools.Responsible for providing support for Vision Hardware and Software control systems suitable for test rigs or production machines. This may involve software development using Cognex Insight platform and a range of languages such as C#, VB or C/C++ and communication to off camera systems such as Machine control PLC.Communication and development of both internal departments such as Operations, Eng., QA, R&D, Technical functions, and external suppliers.Developing algorithms and techniques for processing and analysing images and videos. This may involve tasks such as image emulation, image processing, metrology, feature extraction, data acquisition and pass / fail simulation, OCR, and object recognition.Support site efforts in Implementing machine learning models for tasks like object detection, classification, and tracking.Collaborate with site and divisional SME's to select the right hardware (e.g., cameras, lighting optics etc) for the application and ensures they are calibrated to ensure accurate measurements and image quality.Support the design of the overall architecture of the computer vision system to meet specific requirements and objectives.Selecting appropriate hardware components and software tools.Write code and software to implement the vision algorithms, control hardware components, and interface with other systems and software in the application.Manage the storage and retrieval of large volumes of image and video data, including data pre-processing and organizationIdentify and implement performance optimizations to ensure that the vision system meets speed and efficiency requirements.Continuously collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to integrate the vision systems with larger systems or platforms, such as robotic control systems or industrial automation systems.Conduct rigorous testing, validation, and benchmarking to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the vision system's output.Provide ongoing maintenance and support to ensure the continued functionality and performance of the vision systems.Stays up to date with the latest advancements in computer vision, machine learning, and related technologies to enhance the system's capabilities.Ensure the vision system adheres to relevant divisional and corporate procedures and policies, as well as industry standards and safety regulations, and ensures appropriate change control is followed for vision related updates.Implement security measures to safeguard the system from unauthorized access or data breaches, particularly in applications involving sensitive data.Qualifications and ExperienceMinimum Level 7 NFQ qualification or equivalent.
