Garda Vetting: Mandatory - Regular access to areas with vulnerable personsA major public body is seeking an experienced Painter to support project-related works at St. Michael's Hospital, Dún Laoghaire. This is a full-time, fixed-term assignment of approximately 8 months, providing essential support to the Estates/Facilities function during planned refurbishment and maintenance projects.The successful candidate will work within a live healthcare environment and must consistently demonstrate high standards of workmanship, safety awareness, communication, and discretion.Key Responsibilities
- Carry out internal and external painting, including preparation, priming, filling, patch repairs, sanding, and finishing
- Maintain and protect work areas within occupied clinical and patient settings
- Work safely around patients, staff, and visitors with minimal disruption
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention measures, signage, and access controls
- Support minor refurbishment, maintenance, and repair tasks as instructed
- Use paints, coatings, and materials appropriate to healthcare environments
- Operate tools and equipment safely and maintain good housekeeping at all times
- Follow all safety procedures, risk assessments, and site-specific instructions
- Communicate effectively with Estates, ward staff, and contractors
- Maintain accurate records where required (daily logs, task sheets, materials usage)
- Proven experience as a Painter/Decorator (healthcare, public buildings, or other sensitive environments desirable)
- Strong skills in preparation, finishing, and working to a high standard of detail
- Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling (or willingness to complete prior to start)
- Ability to work safely in occupied spaces and adhere to infection control requirements
- Excellent awareness of health & safety, including safe access, working at heights, and chemical/paint handling
- Good communication and organisation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider facilities/estates team
- Must be willing and eligible to complete Garda Vetting (mandatory)
- Full-time role (weekly hours TBC)
- Work may require access to clinical and sensitive hospital areas
- Must follow all hospital procedures, including infection control and ID/security policies
- Project duration: approx. 8 months
