Senior Hydrologist and Hydraulic ModellerRoughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a civil/environmental engineer with a minimum of eight years’ experience for a permanent role within our expanding water engineering team.Job type: PermanentSalary: CompetitiveLocation: Sandyford, D. 18, Woodford, D.17 and Otley, LeedsAbout the roleYou will join a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team with experience and expertise across a range of technical disciplines, including environmental science, ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology and transportation.Our portfolio features:flood alleviation schemessustainable flood risk management planning and policy developmentriver restoration strategiescatchment pressure assessmentsclimate change adaptation strategiesbridges, highways, roads, public transport and greenways in Ireland and the UKresidential, health, education, office and retail developmentsCurrent and recent projects include:Strategic Flood Risk Assessments, stormwater management strategies and Water Framework Directive catchment pressure assessments for local authorities across IrelandDutiesWorking as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will:undertake strategic flood risk assessments for statutory and non-statutory land-use plans in the UK and Ireland, including procurement of surveys, hydrological estimation and statistical analysis for gauged and ungauged catchments, attending public consultation events and performing the lead role for the SFRA teamundertake site specific flood risk assessments for public and private developments in the UK and Ireland, including residential, commercial, industrial, education, health and large-scale infrastructure development sectorsprepare Section 50 applications to the Office of Public Works (OPW)advise structures, earthworks/alignment and drainage teams on the sizing of bridge openings, culvert arrangements, road levels and outfall arrangementsliaise with transportation, environmental, geotechnical and structures colleagues to identify constraints and opportunities, improve routes, drainage requirements, flood defences and coastal protection worksassist in the preparation of the brief of evidence for Oral Hearingsprovide support at Oral Hearingscoach and mentor graduates, design engineers and senior design engineersundertake hydrological assessments and hydraulic modelling using HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller and Infoworks ICM amongst othersRequirementsEight+ years’ relevant experienceHonours degree in civil/environmental engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)Ability to work in a team and/or independentlyExperience of hydrological estimation methodologiesExperience of strategic flood risk assessmentExperience of site-specific flood risk assessmentExperience of 1D-2D flood modelling (rivers and watercourses) and ICMGood organisational skillsStrong project management skills and experienceLeadership, presentation and communication skills, including report writingAbility to supervise and lead/mentor junior staffChartered membership of a recognised professional bodyFluent/highly proficient in spoken and written EnglishDesirableMaster’s degree in civil/environmental engineering (Level 9 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)Experience and knowledge of river restoration policy and practiceExperience in the preparation of Section 50 applications to the OPWFull driving licenceExperience in the design of site specific and regional SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) strategiesKnowledge of national, regional and local drainage policy (UK and Ireland)Knowledge of Appropriate Assessment (AA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) processesExperience in the preparation of contract documents for infrastructure and development projectsExperience in the preparation of the brief of evidence for Oral HearingsExperience performing the role of expert witness at Oral HearingsExperience of constraints studies, options selection process, multicoloured manual/CBA process for flood alleviation schemes and large infrastructure projects in the UK and IrelandAbout Roughan & O'DonovanRoughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is expert in planning, designing and managing major infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients across Ireland and the UK.
