U.S. Bank is seeking a Senior Application Developer with design and development experience to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives. In this role you will be part of the EU Authorisation Switch Team responsible for the delivery of highly available and comprehensive solutions in a mission-critical environment. The application is responsible for handling of payment transactions to card schemes and is based on a Stratus OS environment using COBOL language primarily.This is a permanent full time position based in our Arklow Office in Ireland.As a Senior Application Developer you will:Design, code, test, debug, document, maintain, and modify computer programs of high complexity, significance, and riskRecommend solutions to improve business with a focus on core architecture, technology automation and standardsGuide others through change impact analysis while promoting automation-first and DevOps-aligned practicesEstablish, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as neededReview, analyse, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as neededCreate and recommend improvements to unit, test plans and testing process based on assessment of organizational needsCollaborate closely with teams in all stages of software development lifecycle including design, development and testing of the systemDesign basic and detailed program specifications while ensuring that expected application performance levels are achieved by managing interfaces, service levels, standards, and configurationsGuide technical staff and business partners to investigate, review, and solve complex, multidisciplinary business problemsMonitor operating efficiency and organizational needs of existing application systems and identify opportunities to fine-tune and optimize applications of developed projects and recommend technical solutionsDemonstrate solid understanding of the business needs driving the projectsBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree, or equivalent work experienceApplication Development – 4+ years of real time application development experience.Application Support – 3+ years of experience supporting mission critical applications.·rack record of achievement within the payments industry.Preferred Skills / ExperienceExtensive experience in:Application design, architecture, and development system development life cycle (SDLC), including Agile and CI/CD practicesApplication and system testing with a strong emphasis on automation and quality engineeringRelease management and change controlApplication maintenance and modernizationIT standards, procedures, and policyModeling (data, process, events, objects)Strong preference for experience with:Designing, developing, and maintaining automated unit, integration, and regression testsCoding for testability, including use of mocks, stubs, and modular design principlesIntegrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and enforcing quality gatesOne or more programming or scripting languages used for test automationSubject Matter Expertise in:Programming and software engineering best practices, including approaches that emphasize early and continuous testingDesirable ExperienceDevelopment in a Stratus VOS environment using COBOL is highly desirable but not essential.Knowledge of and experience in modern development toolchain utilities such as JIRA, Confluence, Git/Bitbucket and Jenkins.Previous experience working in cross-organizational agile, portfolio or DevOps environments.Fully proficient in performing database queries using SQL.Skills/DispositionA results oriented individual who delivers the highest quality solutions.Excellent oral and written communication skills.A team player with the ability and experience to lead others to achieve goals and resolution of tasks.Exceptional inter-personal skills with an ability to form long lasting and mutually beneficial professional relationships.A detail oriented individual who is able to set and work to fixed deadlines.Proven ability to multi-task.Proven ability to understand complex requirements and issues and communicate them in simple language.A self-starter who makes and honours commitments with a clear focus on high quality outcomes.Analytical thinker and problem solver who takes ownership of issues and leads them a successful resolution.Able to work under pressure and react to changing user requirements.Location expectationsThis role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.AccessibilityWe are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible recruitment experience.
