- To practice within the Codes of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and comply with the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic.
- Develop and co-ordinate the Cardiothoracic Physiotherapy service at Blackrock Clinic.
- Personally, and professionally accountable to the patient. Be personally accountable for own actions at all times.
- BSc(Hons)degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Dublin
- BSc in Physiotherapy from the Royal college of surgeons in Ireland.
- BSc Physiotherapy (Hons) from the National University of Ireland.
- Diploma of Physiotherapy of the University of Dublin or the National University.
- BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Limerick
- Physiotherapy qualification validated by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy
- Membership or of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists
- Continued Professional Development Diary including evidence of reflective practice, In-service training, courses attended, and Clinical Governance gained
- Post graduate courses relevant to the clinical specialty would be desirable
- To demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise in the area of Cardiothoracic's.
- To review and update Cardiothoracic Protocols, information sheets and all relevant documentation as required.
- Ability to instruct and teach junior staff, students and other team members with regard to Physiotherapy Cardiothoracic procedures.
- Keep abreast of current advances and research in Cardiothoracic's to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained by the physiotherapy service.
- To attend courses and study days as appropriate and liaise on a regular basis with other Cardiothoracic facilities.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- To ensure all documentation is maintained in accordance with hospital policies.
- Liaise in an effective and open way with all other team members and consultants to
- Promote a team approach to care.
- Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel.
- Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions.
- Communicate appropriate with colleagues and other members of the health care team.

- Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
- Provide leadership and direction to personnel and others.
- Manage and coordinate an effective, efficient and quality Cardiothoracic service in co-operation with the Physiotherapist in charge.
- Responsibility to oversee physiotherapy care administered by the Junior physiotherapy staff working on your team.
- Orientate new staff members and students in the Cardiothoracic Service.
- Actively participate in and promote continuing professional development.
- Manage the ordering and supply of equipment
- To be familiar with the computer system particularly PIMs.
- Manage workload and liaise with the Physiotherapist in charge with regard to staffing levels.
- Deal with patient queries and complaints in liaison with the Physiotherapist in Charge.
- Ensure accurate and relevant statistics of activity levels are maintained.
- Develop the Cardiothoracic Physiotherapy Service in a progressive manner.
- Oversee the role of the Physiotherapy Assistant and delegate duties as appropriate.
- Lead by example a professional, dedicated and punctual team.
- Facilitate professional development of team members through promotion of continuing
- Promote professional development through self-learning, formal courses and in-service training.
- Ensure staff compliance with hospital policy on CPR, Manual Handling, Health and
- Safety, Infection Control, and Fire Training.
- Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures which includes ensuring equipment used on the service is maintained to the required standard and defects are reported to appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
- To ensure a safe working environment in your area.
- Function within the limits of Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and hospital policies, procedures and standards.
- Support the Mission Statement of Blackrock Clinic.
- Observe appropriate lines of authority.
- Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the hospital as required.
- Set annual goals and objectives with head of department.
- Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills.
