At The Wheel we're looking for a EU Funding Officer to join our team.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Wheel is seeking a skilled and motivated EU Funding Officer to join our team. Reporting to our European Programmes ManagerThe Wheel's European Programme aims to increase civil society's engagement with and access to European funding and to promote active European citizenship in Irish communities through our support service, .Access Europe delivers a range of activities, including a helpdesk, partnership support, information, training and events. The Wheel also delivers our own EU-funded projects and supports through the delivery of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPAS) programme, an EU-wide initiative promoting parliamentary democracy and citizenship among young people.Working closely with the European Programmes Manager and colleagues across the organisation, the EU Funding Officer will support the delivery of European Programme activities within The Wheel, aiming to increase sector organisations' understanding of opportunities available and specifically support building their capacity to secure EU funding.ROLE PURPOSE & RELATIONSHIPSThe purpose of this role is to strengthen Irish civil society organisations' access to and engagement with EU funding and programmes. The EU Funding Officer will research, analyse and promote relevant EU funding opportunities, translating complex information into clear and accessible guidance for civil society organisations. The role will coordinate training events and support the development of practical training content to build the capacity of organisations to identify, apply for and manage EU funding. The officer will also support civil society engagement with EU policies and programmes by facilitating information sharing, learning opportunities and collaboration between Irish organisations and European partners and policy makers.The EU Funding Officer is a member of the Development and Member Services Team and reports to the European Programmes Manager.The post-holder will also need to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues, partners and the members of The Wheel.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Research and identify EU funding opportunities relevant to Irish civil society organisations and support their promotion through newsletters, briefings and other information-sharing activities.
  • Support civil society organisations to identify and connect with national and transnational partners for EU-funded projects and collaborative initiatives.
  • Support civil society organisations across the lifecycle of EU-funded projects, including identifying funding opportunities, understanding programme requirements, developing applications, and sharing guidance on project implementation, partnership management and reporting.
  • Support the development and delivery of guidance, training and practical resources to build the capacity of civil society organisations to access and manage EU funding and participate in EU programmes.
  • Lead on the planning and logistics for the programme's 20+ events annually. This includes event promotion through The Wheel's network, writing copy for event listings, liaising with speakers and trainers, coordinating event content, managing registrations, supporting participants and providing follow-up materials.
  • Deliver inputs at internal and external trainings, workshops and events on EU funding, programmes and opportunities for civil society organisations.
  • Support civil society engagement with EU policy and programmes by sharing relevant information, identifying opportunities for participation in consultations and initiatives, and facilitating connections between Irish organisations and European networks.
  • Promote awareness of EU citizenship, values and opportunities within communities by supporting outreach activities, events and initiatives that highlight the role and impact of the EU.
  • Track and measure progress against programme targets and contribute to reporting for sponsors, funders and management as required.
  • Provide support to the
(which The Wheel coordinates in Ireland) by assisting the project lead with events, monitoring visits and programme activities. * Assist with the implementation of other EU-related programmes and initiatives as required.Essential criteria
  • At least two years of experience in EU projects
  • Excellent research skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence to address a group
  • Experience of facilitation, training or event management
  • Ability to build sustainable relationships with key individuals inside and outside of the organisation.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience supporting organisation(s) access EU funding
  • Experience of liaising with national contact points, technical assistance leads, programme managers and project officers at national and EU level in order to gain programme insights
  • Some knowledge of Salesforce CRM and/or bulk mail software would be advantageous
  • Not-for-profit experience (either as a volunteer or in paid employment).

Note: Successfully shortlisted applicants will be provided with the Behavioural Competency Framework before the interview.Key InformationIn accordance with the terms of the funding for these roles from the contracting authority this contract will be offered for one year with the option to extend for a further two yearsThis contract is for a 36-hour week and the salary is payable monthly in arrears
  • The pay band for Officer level posts in The Wheel is €36,000 - €48,100. We anticipate that the salary for this role will be within the lower half of that band.
  • The Wheel both offers and expects flexibility in terms of hours and location of work for a role such as this and the remuneration and benefits package offered reflects this.
This role requires the post holder to attend in-person meetings in Dublin and elsewhere regularly.Additionally, the role may require participation in meetings which can occur in the evenings and on weekends. The Wheel's Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) policy applies to this position.Travel outside of the office is reimbursed according to our expense policy.The Wheel offers the following benefits in addition to salary:
  • A 6% employers' contribution to a mandatory company contributory pension scheme, subject to a 4% employee contribution. (A lower option is available.)
