The Virtualization Engineer will work in a team within the Technology Services Directorate which is responsible for delivering a number of key projects over a 3-year period. One such project is the design, deployment and maintenance of a virtualised infrastructure to be used in a SJU Digital sky project (Exodus). Another project is the local implementation of SWIM Integration platform.Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Work alongside cross-functional teams to support projects related to virtualization (Exodus and SWIM).
- Manage the day-to-day administration of VMware and OpenShift Virtualization environments; troubleshoot issues related to virtualization and collaborate with other teams to resolve them.
- Plan and engineer expansion of virtualised infrastructure;
- Provide guidance for virtualization best practices;
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including operating procedures and installation diagrams;
- Create training material and deliver training for the maintenance of virtualised infrastructure;
- Implement security policies and to secure method access;
Education, Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Essential:
- A third level degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a virtualization engineer
- Strong experience with VMware technologies or equivalent;
- Experience of Linux operating systems;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with a team working across multiple locations;
- Clean Driving Licence
- Experience with Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes);
- Experience with OpenShift;
- Experience and knowledge of cybersecurity best practices;
- Experience and knowledge of IP networks infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, IDS, load balancers, etc.);
- Ability to administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) attached to VMware environments;
- Experience with Public Key Infrastructures;
- Experience in a DevOps role;
- Working with regulatory authorities
