Job DescriptionSUMMARY
As Edlong’s Scientist – EMEA/APAC Applications, you will support the Applications Department drive projects to commercialization to ensure solution delivery to customers in a timely manner. Reporting directly to the Manager – EMEA/APAC Applications, you will be responsible for following recipes to make finished product samples and determining appropriate flavors and/or flavor combinations to meet specific needs as designed by research and development, marketing, and quality control. The ideal candidate must be adaptable and demonstrate a high proficiency in multiple areas of application development (e.g., bakery, snacks, seasonings, cheese, beverage, etc.).ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accurately follow & create recipes and formulas to produce finished food and beverage concepts for demonstrations to customers.
  • Engage actively in employee taste panels and other sensory training activities including evaluating, tasting, and working with flavors for products including dairy, soy, nuts, and eggs.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with chefs, food scientists, flavorists, marketing professionals and sales teams to collaboratively create new ideas for finished food and beverages that showcase Edlong’s product portfolio.
  • Support Edlong’s Sales, Marketing, and R&D departments by working on assigned projects and completing their necessary tasks to solve customer challenges in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, presenting Edlong’s portfolio capabilities regularly to highlight a wide range of food & beverage applications.
  • Assist and ensure the timely response to any inquiries and technical support requests from customers.
  • Stay abreast and familiar with all flavours in the EMEA/APAC product line.
  • Design, promote, and master the necessary procedures to analyze results from comparison and other sensory testing for quality control and shelf-life testing.
  • Develop and implement a variety of non-routine sensory analyses and tests that respond to specific product development needs while documenting and reporting those that yield value to Edlong.
  • Partake in technical training to learn about new raw materials and ingredients within the dairy & nondairy space.
  • Adhere to lab safety guidelines and GMP to ensure safety when using laboratory/kitchen equipment and cleanliness within work areas to maintain a high quality of service to promote a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain all EU-OSHA reporting requirements by working with Edlong leadership to ensure a healthy workplace culture where wellness and safety are a critical business priority.
  • Assemble flavor technical documentation as requested by customers, including specification sheets, documents, etc.
  • Upkeep and maintain file documentations pertaining to assigned work in a way that self- and team can access as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Procure and manage raw material supplies for the EMEA/APAC Applications department to ensure all necessary ingredients and materials are available for product development and testing.
  • Prepare Edlong Ireland’s products for shipment by assembling, packing, and labeling samples in appropriate containers.
  • Contribute to team efforts, collaboration, and results by following Edlong’s values, guidelines, supporting departmental objectives, and aligning with the Corporate Mission, Vision, and Strategic goals.
  • Maintain and enhance professional and technical knowledge base of Edlong personnel by sponsoring or attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks to stay up to date on current trends.
  • Execute other duties, as assigned.

Education, Requirements, Certifications
  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field with an additional 1-3 years of experience in the food industry.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Working knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook).
  • Product development software such as Product Vision or similar software.
  • CRM tools and internal business software such as Salesforce and Plex.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job:
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit.
  • The employee is regularly required to operate a keyboard, calculator and telephone.
  • The employee must operate various pieces of lab equipment including pH meters, viscometers, gram scales, mixers, and blenders.
  • The employee is regularly required to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • The employee occasionally will stir products manually.
  • The employee will regularly be required to use safety equipment for several processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work location includes a professional kitchen and a traditional lab setting within an environmentally controlled building where daily conditions are maintained at normal levels.
  • Typical workday attendance is required with few unscheduled absences.
  • Travel may be necessary, including internationally.
  • Occasionally, the use of flammable and/or corrosive chemicals is warranted, which can be harmful if not utilized in a proper environment with proper safety considerations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may at times be exposed to nonhazardous fumes.
