
Axis Programmer Lead

This is a full-time role for an experienced 5-Axis CNC Programmer with proven leadership ability. In addition to programming, operating, and maintaining multiple 5-Axis CNC machines, the successful candidate will lead a production cell team, ensuring output meets performance, quality, and safety standards. You will coordinate daily tasks, monitor team performance, address issues proactively, and report results to Production Managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of CNC machinists and operatives within the assigned production cell.
- Monitor daily performance, output, and quality metrics; report progress and issues to Production Managers.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
- Generate CNC programs to produce precision components for volumes ranging from one-off parts to mass production.
- Achieve production targets and output requirements while maintaining high quality standards.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Load raw materials onto machines and select appropriate work/tool holdings.
- Select optimal tool paths and machining strategies to maximise efficiency and quality.
- Oversee and carry out required preventative machine maintenance.
- Perform and supervise quality inspections on finished components.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the cell to optimise workflow and reduce downtime.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a CNC programmer in a high-precision production environment.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in CAM software, preferably SolidCam, and familiarity with Hurco machines.
- Knowledge and understanding of GD&T.
- Strong communication and team coordination skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, with highly developed technical and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience machining various materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, and medical-grade plastics.
- High competency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and CAD.
