Headquartered in Tuam, Co. Galway, Valeo Vision Systems VVS is the world leader in providing advanced driver-assistance and automated parking systems. The Computer Vision Department is responsible for developing custom-built state-of-the-art algorithms intrinsically designed to leverage the full power of today's most advanced multi-core automotive embedded platforms. Computer vision algorithms developed include: 3D object detection, pedestrian and vehicle classification, trajectory mapping, online calibration, lens soiling detection, lane and park-slot detection, and much more. The outputs from these algorithms feed into a detailed map of the vehicle's environment via advanced sensor fusion. The team specialise in redefining state-of-the-art computer vision techniques for object detection, classification, structure from motion, localisation, mapping and deep learning in order to deliver next-generation advanced driver-assistance and automated driving systems for leading European, American and Asian OEMs.
Role Overview
As an Image Quality Engineer you will be responsible for the development of state of the art Vision Systems supporting the video pipeline development focusing on image sensor and image signal processing (ISP) configuration and optimisation, and supported by an experienced team of imaging and optics design experts. Working closely with some of the largest OEM’s in the industry you will lead the definition, planning, delivery and validation of best in class viewing and analytics features in line with Valeo’s cutting edge automotive vision applications.
Responsibilities
  • Develop state of the art Image Signal Processing Pipelines for Scene Viewing and Scene Processing applications
  • Characterise and optimise the Image Sensor and associated ISP pipeline for a wide range of VVS applications
  • Validate the Image Quality performance to the latest industry standards
  • Review Customer Requirements and translate into internal systems & software requirements specifications.
  • Actively coordinate with Systems Architects, Software Architects, Software and Test engineers to ensure full planning, implementation and traceability of requirements relating to your assigned function.
  • Define and maintain development plans for your assigned function within a project and provide regular engineering reports on status and performance of same.
  • Interface directly to your counterparts at vehicle manufacturers to plan and agree development of your assigned function.
  • Manage the validation of your assigned feature throughout its development in both the Laboratory and Test Vehicle in line with best practices and customer expectations.
  • Participate in OEM Customer Workshops to review, test and plan next steps relating to your assigned function
  • Provide regular demos of your function to senior management and customers on prototype vehicles.
  • Perform research into new vision technology, ideas, and approaches to ensure the organisation remains abreast of all leading edge/emerging vision technologies.
  • Work innovatively and creatively within the group with a particular focus on protecting innovation and IP through the patent process
  • Support PC-based algorithmic Image Signal Processing development, including both scene viewing and scene processing applications
Qualifications - External
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum BEng BSc
  • Minimum 2 years Image Processing Experience
  • Strong understanding of Imaging and Image Signal Processing
  • Understand of Optics Fundamentals
  • Strong programming skills (C, C++, Mathlab, Python etc)
  • Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal
  • High level of innovation and motivation
