What this Job Entails:The Data Center Field Technician I performs or assists with the installation. maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Network and Server infrastructure assets in Data Centers, Colocations, and Edge facilities. They are a mobile force capable of moving between locations, working on a diverse array of gear, and interacting with other technicians.Scope:Works on complex assignments requiring a high degree of initiativeRequires some oversight and reports to a team leader Your Roles and Responsibilities:Take an apprentice role in installing, moving, decommissioning, and troubleshooting hardware including cabinets, shelves, power strips, rails, fiber/copper/other cables and cable management, servers, storage, network, firewall, and other devices within the Data Center and outside of itConfirm and label devices, racks, and cablesWork in a standard ticketing system, providing clear, timely, and appropriate customer communicationsWork under the direction of a lead Data Center Technician, the Site Operations Supervisor, and/or Operations Manager; and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Program Policies, Safety Policies, and Security Policies, while meeting requirements for quality and quantity of work.Perform design redlining and produce detailed reports and documentationMaybe be required to fulfill on-call duties on a rotating basisOther duties as required. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive inventory of all responsibilities assigned to this positionRequired Qualifications/Skills:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceHigh attention to detail and ability to follow other technicians’ direction to ensure qualityPerforms multiple tasks and ensures deadlinesNetworks with key contacts outside own area of expertiseDetermines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnelExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishAbility to respond to any On-Call request within 1 hour, while on-call.Effectively utilize ticket, inventory, and dispatch management systemsExperience cabling systems (power/copper/fiber/other) correctly based on Statements of Work, ticket requirements and/or SOP standardsExperience working with CAT5e and CAT6 copper cable and multi-mode and single-mode fiberProven ability to adapt to changing priorities, conditions, and circumstancesStrong organization skillsBasic knowledge of computer hardwareBasic understanding of networking components and infrastructuresBasic knowledge of copper and fiber test equipmentExcellent troubleshooting skillsUnderstanding of Data Center best practices (i.e. basic fault tolerance, cable routing, calculating power usage)Experience with cable management and knowledge of how to run fiber and copper in a data centerBasic knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and data center infrastructuresAble to operate material handling equipment – server lifts, pallet jacks, and forklifts (if certified)Proficiency working with standard desktop PC tools and applications, such as MS Office, MS Outlook, web browsers, etc.Ability to learn new softwareWorking knowledge of networking components and infrastructures, including Wi-FiPreferred Qualifications:Certifications in Networking, Server/IT infrastructure and Data Center technologies are desiredPhysical Demand & Work Environment:Physically assist in moving and racking equipment.Able to safely lift and move a minimum of fifty (50) poundsMust have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standingM ust have the ability to move from place to place within an office environmentMust be able to use a computerMust have the ability to communicate effectivelySome positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingersDriver’s license and clean driving record
