Coolrain Sawmills, part of the CJ Sheeran Group, manufactures and supplies a wide range of quality, FSC®-certified sawn products for an array of industries, including fencing, landscaping, pallet and packaging. Co-products such as sawdust, shavings, chips and bark are also produced into end products such as MDF, chipboard, horticultural graded bark and biomass for the energy generation sector. We are seeking a motivated Saw Doctor to join our team. This specialist role is central to maintaining cutting precision, maximising blade performance, and ensuring consistent product quality across a range of advanced sawing equipment. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Saw Doctor and be trained in all aspects of saw blade sharpening, repair, and maintenance within a highly automated timber sawmill environment. This role involves a variety of tasks that ensure the efficiency and reliability of our cutting equipment by performing regular assessments, repairs, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical aptitude, a strong ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards. Responsibilities: Assist the Senior Saw Doctor in all activities related to the sharpening, repair, and maintenance of saw blades. Perform routine saw blade changes and ensure their proper functioning within timber sawing machines and also inspecting the saws for any defects on an ongoing basis Sharpening and repair of all bandsaw and circular saw blades required for multiple different timber sawing machines Complete assessment of all blades for alignment, tension and defects etc Re-tipping and sharpening of both circular and band saw blades using specialised automated equipment Removal and re-install of all repaired and resharpened blades into all saw types within a highly automated timber sawmill machinery environment Responsible for the procurement, management and repair of all blades across multiple machine types including band saws, Circular saws, Chipper heads, planers moulders and trim saws. Fault finding analysis of cutting errors in the timber and working to resolving same with the mechanical maintenance team. Working with external partners to develop new cutting heads for moulders etc to support new cutting patterns Developing relationships with all related suppliers and ensuring minimum stock levels are maintained of all saw blades and parts at all times Maintain a high standard of quality across all production outputs, ensuring all products meet company specifications and customer expectations Requirements: Basic mechanical/engineering understanding, with experience or knowledge in tool making, mechanical fitting, or similar areas being an advantage Attention to detail, ensuring high-quality standards in all work completed Good PC skills for managing data and reports and
