University of Galway is ranked 34th in the world and first in Ireland in the Times Higher Education's Impact Rankings.The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences (SBCS) in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway invites applications for a Senior Lecturer position, commencing August 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates with postgraduate level teaching experience in biotechnology and related fields are particularly sought. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience of coordinating modules and courses at 3rd level, as well as previous experience of working or collaborating with the commercial biotechnology sector. Candidates that have research and/or teaching experience in both health and environmental biotechnology are particularly welcome to apply. The criteria for selection are proven experience in teaching, including organising modules and programmes, formal academic practice training, experience biotechnology research, potential to expand programme offers and complementarity with expertise at SBCS. The appointment will be made at Senior Lecturer level, commensurate with experience.The Senior Lecturer will be located within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, which hosts programmes and pathways in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biopharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics/Genomics, Medicinal Chemistry, MedTech, Microbiology, and Plant and Agri bioscience. We also offer postgraduate taught programmes in Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, AgriFood Sustainability & Technology, Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security, Medical Technology Regulatory Affairs and Quality. The successful candidate will be expected to take on the role of Director of the MSc in Biotechnology programme, a highly successful and well established postgraduate taught programme, established for over 40 years. The Senior Lecturer will be expected to work closely with associated MSc programmes. As a type A Senior lecturer, the focus of the position is on teaching and administration, however development of research activities is desirable, particularly to enable research-led teaching. The MSc in Biotechnology teaching at the University of Galway involves working with students and groups from diverse backgrounds.
