- Assist the DON in leading and overseeing the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, evidence-based nursing care.
- Evaluate clinical practices to ensure compliance with HIQA standards, national health policies, and best practice guidelines.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and monitor individual care plans.
- Lead infection prevention and control strategies, ensuring adherence to the latest HIQA guidance.
- Support ongoing compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Health Act 2007 and its associated regulations.
- Assist in preparing for and responding to HIQA inspections, audits, and follow-up actions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including risk registers, incident logs, audit reports, and care plans.
- Mentor and supervise nursing and care staff, promoting professional development and reflective practice.
- Participate in recruitment, induction, rostering, and performance management activities.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings, clinical supervision, and training sessions.
- Promote a culture of dignity, respect, and autonomy within a safe and inclusive environment.
- Serve as a key contact for residents and families, managing concerns and complaints in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, resource management, and policy development alongside the DON.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and assist in developing and implementing the Annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
- Act as Deputy for the DON when required.
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 3 years' post-registration experience in nursing management, preferably in a nursing home or similar aged care setting.
- Strong knowledge of HIQA Standards, the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People, and relevant health legislation.
- Leadership training and/or a management qualification (e.g., QQI Level 6 in Management) is desirable.
- A postgraduate qualification in nursing leadership is an advantage.
