- Oversee the day-to-day running of retail and operational activities, ensuring smooth, efficient and profitable performance.
- Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team across sales, yard, and store operations.
- Maintain a strong hands-on presence on the floor, supporting staff and engaging with customers.
- Ensure excellent customer service standards across all areas of the business.
- Drive sales growth and margin improvement through strong product management and pricing strategies.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, product mix and supplier relationships.
- Analyse sales and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and product availability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trade customers, contractors, and local businesses.
- Identify opportunities to grow market share within the local construction and sectors.
- Support marketing initiatives and promotions that drive customer engagement and sales.
- Recruit, train and develop team members.
- Foster a positive, accountable and performance-driven culture.
- Manage staff scheduling, performance management and ongoing development.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and profitability.
- Manage cost control, operational budgets and performance targets.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, operational and company policies.
- Contribute to the long-term strategy and development of the business.
- Identify new opportunities in products, services, or operational improvements.
- Support the owners in driving sustainable business growth.
- Proven experience in retail operations management or branch management
- Background in builder's merchants, construction supply, hardware retail, or agri retail
- Strong commercial awareness with a focus on sales, margin and cost control
- Natural people leader who can motivate and develop teams
- Hands-on, proactive and solution-oriented
- Strong customer relationship and communication skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational management
