- Well balanced, documented underwriting assessments/decisions provided within the service targets using a variety of information requested/gathered and interpreted from a number of sources to ensure that a fair decision is reached in line with the appropriate medical and financial information.
- Technical enquiries dealt with competently to ensure that a high level of customer service is provided.
- Continuous improvement activities encouraged, developed and implemented to ensure that Underwriting practices and skills are constantly enhanced.
- One-to-one training, coaching, development and mentoring provided to colleagues as required.
- Audit and Quality Assurance data collated, checked for accuracy and regular reports produced in order to provide feedback to staff and line managers which will be used to enhance the service.
- Business projects which impact Underwriting processes progressed and completed in line with the relevant project plan to ensure that the interests of the Underwriting service are represented and the service is enhanced.
- Maintaining relationships with Sales and Marketing, the Chief Medical Officer and the Reassurer, to ensure that these relationships work to the mutual advantage of these areas and Standard Life.
- Previous underwriting decisions are reviewed in light of a claim to provide a “retrospective underwriting” decision, as the decisions must be justifiable and linked to the appropriate underwriting standards at the date of when the policy was written.
- Underwriting experience including Older Life, medical, occupational, substandard life/CI/IP and recreational risks with a range of sums assured.
- An industry recognised qualification is desirable
- The jobholder must have sound knowledge of existing risk products and underwriting practices, and a competent knowledge of appropriate financial services legislation.
- Ability to exercise judgement and make decisions.
- The job holder must have a good level of general market awareness and industry knowledge.
- The ability to plan and organise own workload and manage tasks simultaneously within tight timescales, with conflicting demands.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Previous experience of Quality Assurance
- This role has been identified as regulated role the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness & Probity regime. The successful candidate will be required to comply with the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness and Probity Standards on an ongoing basis.
