Head of Construction Underwriting wanted for Global Insurer-DublinAbrivia are currently recruiting for a Head of Construction Underwriting for our client, a Specialised Insurance Group, based in Dublin. This role will take over an existing book of business across Ireland and Europe and be tasked with maintaining, developing, and expanding the relationships with current and future MGA’s.The ideal candidate will have a strong track record within Construction Insurance and not be afraid to introduce new ideas to the business while researching potential new markets or building new relationships with MGA’s.Your Role:
  • Operates with a high level of autonomy, occasionally receiving guidance from the Underwriting Director.
  • Sets own objectives within the established business plan for the business group/function, offering tactical leadership and strategic insight for the line of business.
  • Exercises broad discretion in line with the business group’s three to five-year plan and risk appetite.
  • Capable of devising and executing product strategy in alignment with the overall business plan.
  • Leads an underwriting team across all aspects of the line of business, including risk assessment, pricing, policy maintenance, and loss analysis within predefined authority limits.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of operational requirements essential for the business line, and effectively contributes to establishing necessary operational structures (e.g., IT, Claims, Finance).
  • Manages both internal and external communications of strategic significance and conveys strategic messages from senior leadership.
  • Directly responsible for day-to-day underwriting of the construction product line and providing approval for business cases presented by the Underwriting Team.
  • Actively engages in external partner relationships when technical assistance is needed.
  • Conducts product and account analysis to determine suitable product structure and pricing, aligning with underwriting guidelines for both existing and new clients.
  • Provides underwriting approval for policy and endorsement language prior to Compliance sign-off.
Your Skills:
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a lead underwriting role, with extensive knowledge of the product line. Preference given to candidates with international experience, particularly in the EEA.
  • Proven track record of executing profitable transactions and driving business growth.
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting and implementing underwriting business plans.
  • Strong analytical abilities and numerical proficiency. * Exhibits high levels of integrity and honesty.
  • Results-oriented approach.
  • High emotional intelligence in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence and advocate for change.
  • Skilled in networking, relationship building, and collaboration.
  • Encourages process improvement and maintains a positive attitude towards change management.
