The Homemaker is responsible for: -
  • Greeting and welcoming all visitors to the House.
  • Creating meaningful events and activities for the residents which are both planned and unplanned.
  • Welcoming Assisting with the planning of meals and mealtimes and organizing and serving the meals to the residents in the House in a person centred way, showing flexibility, awareness of individual needs/preferences and choice.
  • Maintaining residents’ fluid and food intake charts where necessary and keeping the Nurse/Carer Lead informed of same.
  • Liaising with the House team/catering on any changes in the dietary requirements for residents and reports any changes in residents’ eating patterns to the Nurse/Carer Lead in the House.
  • Ensuring that the kitchenette is kept clean and tidy and running smoothly.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning jobs are completed within their span of duty.
  • Ensuring that cleaning tasks include washing the dishes, sweeping and washing the kitchen floors and the dining area after the residents have finished their meals.
  • Ensuring that the fridge is kept clean, free from spillages and is defrosted every week and that any food stuffs out of date are disposed of.
  • Ensuring that the cooker and microwave are kept clean.
  • Ensuring that all areas within the kitchenette and kitchenette storage areas is kept clean and tidy and well maintained.
  • To ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained, complying with local and national infection control guidelines.
  • Ensuring that equipment and surfaces that come into contact with food, e.g. chopping boards, sinks, storage containers, knives etc must be disinfected.
  • Ensuring that s/he is familiar with the Moorehall Lodge Policy on Food Safety and the associated House Rules and cleaning schedules and completes the relevant records.
  • Making sure that all cleaning cloths, tea towels, residents serviettes etc are laundered or replaced when needed.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning agents and chemicals are locked away and out of reach from residents who may have the propensity to walk into the kitchenette. The domestic laundry room in the House is kept locked when not in use and all detergents are safely locked away.
  • Ensuring that connecting door into the kitchen is kept closed at all times.
  • Ensuring that any other additional responsibilities as directed by the Director of Care and/or Person in Charge are carried out

  • To comply with Moorehall Lodge’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all issues and information relating to residents and Moorehall Lodge.
  • To contribute to the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse.
  • To maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness within your household at all times.
  • To report any ill-health, accident or incident concerning any resident to the Staff Nurse
  • To attend training days and courses, on or off site, as and when required.
  • To attend meetings as and when required.
  • To complete all documentation relating to a resident and all communications with your team in a clear manner.
  • To uphold the Values of your household
  • To report any damage or breakage of equipment, fixtures and fittings.
  • To support new staff members and volunteers providing help and guidance where appropriate.
  • To carry out such other reasonable duties, appropriate to the role as may be required.
