Job Description / Job Title Health Care Assistant Employer: Western Alzheimers, Marian House Respite Home Reporting Relationship Salary €30,000 to €34,000 Location: in person Marian House, Ballindine, Claremorris. Co. Mayo. F12 C950 Hours of work 39 hours per week The HCA reports directly to the Director of Nursing (DON) Purpose of the Post To assist in the provision and delivery of care and ancillary services at the highest level thus ensuring the welfare of residents and acknowledging their rights to dignity and privacy. Roles and Responsibilities • Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times. • To carry out all assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Nurse on Duty e.g. washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, dining and other aspects of daily living. • Act as the named carer for specific residents as allocated by the Nurse on Duty. • Respect privacy and dignity of all residents and promote their independence. • Ensure all residents living areas and bedrooms are left neat and presentable for residents and visitors of Marian House. • Contribute to assisting residents to maximise physical comfort, utilising manual handling techniques. • Observe care plans and alert Nurses regarding any changes in the physical and mental state of the residents. • Report immediately any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health, safety and welfare of residents or visitors. • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for the residents, staff, and visitors of Marian House. • Communicate with all residents and their family/friends. Ensure that all are welcomed and offered refreshments. • Answer the call bell promptly. • Contribute to the serving of resident meals, assisting residents to eat and drink as required. • Assist in the delivery of end of life care. • Comply with all policies and procedures relevant to job role including those that incorporate health and safety, infection control and waste disposal. • Be willing to achieve FETAC / QQI Level 5 Major Award in Health Care and undertake appointed on-going training. • To undertake other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Nurse on Duty/ADON/DON. • Be aware of the confidential nature of the work and in particular, the right of residents to confidentiality. To this end you will not discuss workings of Western Alzheimers or its residents with any third party outside of the organisation. • The foregoing list of duties and responsibilities should not be considered exhaustive. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and Experience Essential: • QQI Level 5 modules in Care of the Elderly and Care Skills • Previous experience in care of the elderly Desirable: • FETAC / QQI Level 5 in Health Care Major award or working towards it Core Aptitudes: • Act as a good role model. • Must be of the caring nature, sympathetic to the ne
