We are committed to providing lifelong services that promote inclusion, independence, and opportunities for our members with Down syndrome. From early intervention and education to adult training, volunteering, and employment initiatives, we aim to create a fully inclusive Kerry.Role PurposeThe Employment and Learning Specialist will play a vital role in enabling DSK members with Down syndrome to reach their full potential through training, education, and meaningful employment. This dynamic role will focus on building inclusive environments, fostering partnerships with employers and educational providers, and directly supporting members at key programme sites including 321 Charity Shop, Deenagh Lodge Café, and our MTU education programmes.The Employment & Learning Specialist will work locally in Kerry, but as part of DSI’s wider employment team, where there will be ample opportunity for support, training & peer to peer learning, as part of Down Syndrome Ireland’s National Employment Programme.Key Responsibilities1. Employment Discovery and Job MatchingIdentify and explore employment and volunteering opportunities suited to the interests, skills and abilities of our members with Down syndrome.Develop strong relationships with local businesses and employers to create inclusive employment.Support members with job preparation, including pre-employment training, CV building, interview preparation & training, and confidence building.2. On-the-Job Support and Job CoachingProvide hands-on support to members during training, trial placements, or employment in 321 Charity Shop, Deenagh Lodge, and external workplaces.Deliver in-employment coaching and workplace adaptations where needed.Maintain regular contact with employers and employees to ensure ongoing support and sustainability.3. Learning and Educational SupportSupport DSK members participating in education and training, particularly in MTU programmes and other community-based learning.Collaborate with instructors, families, and tutors to adapt materials and teaching methods to member needs.Monitor progress, celebrate achievements, and address barriers to learning.4. Inclusion & Disability Awareness TrainingDevelop and deliver engaging Disability Awareness Training to employers, staff teams, and community organisations.Promote the value of inclusive workplaces and challenge stereotypes.Represent Down Syndrome Kerry at community engagement events and industry forums.5. Innovation and Opportunity CreationBring energy, creativity, and innovation to the role by identifying new ideas, partnerships, and projects that enhance the lives of our members.Pilot new initiatives that promote visibility, independence, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome.6.
