Flexibility: Hybrid Working Options (generally 2 days from home)About the RoleOptimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking a Rail Estimator to join a well-established consultancy team specialising in large-scale transportation infrastructure. This position offers exposure to high-value, strategically significant rail projects across Ireland and the wider UK.The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing estimates across all project stages, from feasibility through to tender submissions, and will play a key role in supporting the delivery of major transportation schemes. - Prepare accurate estimates for large-scale rail and civils projects
- Carry out measurements to support estimates and BoQ production
- Maintain and update project cost data in rate databases
- Support and promote good practice in estimating within the consultancy
- Work collaboratively within a team, mentoring junior staff when required
- Plan, prioritise and manage own workload effectively
- Ensure delivery of accurate and timely reports to clients
- Attend project meetings, representing commercial and estimating functions
- Proven estimating experience on major rail or rail systems projects
- Strong general civils and infrastructure estimating capability
- Knowledge of GRIP or Pathway life cycles and related estimating needs
- Understanding of cost breakdown structures and measurement methods in the Irish market
- Experience in using estimating software and digital systems
- Broad knowledge of project planning, risk and investment processes
- Familiarity with standard forms of contract, particularly NEC
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related field (preferred)
- Membership of RICS, CIOB, or ACostE desirable
- Flexibility to work between office, site, and client locations as required
- Irish or UK experience highly advantageous
