CORLANN – WEST REGIONPOST OF TEMPORARY FULL TIME STAFF NURSE/ENHANCED NURSECHILDREN’S SERVICES, GALWAY CITY & COUNTYJOB REF: 96217A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse appointments within the Children’s Services may be made over the next 6 months.Location:This post is primarily located in Crannog Children’s Respite Service. Crannog provides a respite service to children from 6 years of age up to 18 years of age who have a wide range of needs including those with Physical disability, complex medical needs, Autism and behavioural needs. There may also be a requirement to cover hours in the other Children’s Services including Crannmor Respite, Rosedale School and the Child Development Centres located in Galway City.Candidates will be required to be completely flexible in this position and will be required to work a variety of hours including day and night duty hours and sleep-ins as required.The Role:To support the implementation of children’s individualised developmental and educational programmes and work together with the multidisciplinary and staff teams in ensuring the maximum benefit of the programme for the children.To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting children with complex needs. To demonstrate and maintain the highest quality of nursing practice and apply his/ her skills to ensure the developmental, learning, physical, social, and emotional needs of the children in his/ her care are addressed at all times. Be an informed resource for educating and supporting care assistants and family members.Reporting/Responsible To:Team Leader/ Children’s Services Co-ordinator/ Sector Manager.Works With:- Children and families;- Staff Teams;- Multidisciplinary Staff.Qualifications/Experience:
  • A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais). A RNID qualification is highly desirable.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of six months experience of working with children with an Intellectual Disability.
  • A full clean manual Irish Driving Licence (Class B) is desirable for this post.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
  • Basic IT skills are also desirable.

Working Hours:75 hours per fortnight based on a 7-day/night duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays and night duty and sleep-ins to meet service needs.The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.Annual Leave:24 days pro rata per annum. Appropriate service-related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.Remuneration:Department of Health salary scales as at 01/02/2026 apply:Staff Nurse - € 37,788 x 11 increments - € 54,412 pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment € 56,032 pro rata per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.*Enhanced Nurse – € 44,811 x 7 increments - € 56,200 pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment € 57,846 pro rata per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.*As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 – Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract https://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/resources/hr-circulars/hr-circular-022-2019-re-enhanced-nurse-midwife-contract.pdf; once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse. Any Staff Nurse who wishes to avail of the Enhanced Nurse role will have to submit an application and also meet the qualifying criteria.Salary quoted is based on a 37.5 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service.Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,637 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) will also be paid when assigned to services where 75% of the persons supported have a diagnosis of severe/profound intellectual disability.Tenure:The post is temporary, full time and pensionable linked on a specific purpose basis to a permanent staff member’s leave.Probation:A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.
