- Follow safety rules and practices at all times.
- Wear protective equipment specified for each task.
- Advise Supervisor if you see anything suspicious or potentially hazardous or if you see possibilities for improvement.
- Perform work as per assignment given by the Laboratory Manager or other supervisor. Report completion of the work.
- Follow written methods and procedures when carrying out work. When written instructions are not available follow oral instructions given by the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor.
- Check and maintain order of the samples being processed and samples identification. Report any deviations to the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor.
- Handle the samples so as to preserve their identification and prevent their loss, contamination or confusion. Report any accidents to the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor.
- Monitor quality of work being performed, make notes of any anomalies, e.g. reactive samples, boil overs and incomplete dissolution. Report to the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor if necessary.
- Fill in appropriate forms and worksheets and sign/initial records.
- Operate equipment according to instructions/manuals and follow safety rules at all times. If applicable (e.g. balances, dispensers, dilutors) check calibration status of the equipment daily or before use. Report any anomalies/deviations in equipment performance to the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor. Do not use equipment that is out of order, misbehaving or giving suspicious results. Perform routine maintenance of the equipment (e.g. lubrication, changing/cleaning parts) as per equipment manuals/instructions. Keep equipment and workplace clean. When work is finished, tidy up the work area, clean equipment used and get everything ready for the next use.
- Bring considerations regarding possible method or operation improvements to the Laboratory Manager or Quality Manager.
- Complete all required records as per ISO 17025, INAB requirements and the laboratory’s quality management system.
