Workshop Manager
Role Overview
As Workshop Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of a high-volume vehicle workshop. You will coordinate workflow, assign tasks to technicians, and ensure all servicing and repair activities are completed efficiently, within deadlines, and to the highest quality standards. This position plays a key role in driving productivity, maintaining customer satisfaction, and ensuring a safe, compliant working environment.
Ideally you will have a solid and consistent background within the automotive industry, with a strong drive for excellence and proven experience in a supervisory role such as Workshop Controller or Senior Technician within automotive, HGV, or PSV environments.
Responsibilities
Work Planning & Coordination
  • Allocate repair and maintenance tasks based on technician skillsets, availability, and job priority
  • Track job progress throughout the day, ensuring timelines are met and updates are communicated effectively
  • Collaborate closely with service reception and parts teams to maintain smooth workflow and reduce delays
Quality & Performance Management
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality and accuracy standards prior to vehicle handover
  • Ensure all work complies with manufacturer specifications and internal procedures
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and regulatory compliance within the workshop
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, motivate, and support the technician team on a daily basis, including delivering regular toolbox talks
  • Encourage ongoing training and development for technicians and apprentices
  • Provide technical support and assist with diagnosing complex issues when required
Customer & Service Support
  • Work in partnership with service advisors to keep customers informed throughout the repair process
  • Manage technical queries or escalations in a professional and timely manner
  • Contribute to achieving high customer satisfaction levels and strong first-time fix rates
Administration & Reporting
  • Ensure accurate completion of job cards, including time tracking, parts usage, and technician notes
  • Support monitoring of workshop productivity, efficiency, and key performance indicators
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Liaise regularly with Service and Sales Managers to prioritise workflow and vehicle turnaround
Skills & Experience
  • Full, clean Category B driving licence
  • Experience within a franchised dealership, large fleet workshop, or commercial vehicle environment
  • You must be a qualified HGV or LGV Technician, currently residing in Ireland with full EU working rights.
  • Strong customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
  • Excellent teamwork and relationship-building skills
  • Flexible, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • IT proficiency, including workshop management systems (e.g. Kerridge/Keyloop)
  • Fluent English
  • High attention to detail
