Ecologist / Environmental ConsultantLocation: Dublin City (Southside) - Hybrid
Partnering Consultancy: In partnership with a leading environmental consultancy, Optimize RecruitmentOptimize Recruitment is proud to partner with a highly regarded consultancy to recruit an experienced Ecologist / Environmental Consultant for their expanding team. This position can be based in either Dublin (southside) ecological and environmental projects nationwide.This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist with 2+ years of experience who is looking to take the next step in their career, contributing to high‑impact work across multiple industry sectors. The role combines fieldwork and desk-based responsibilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary environmental specialists on innovative and sustainability‑focused projects.Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, conduct, and oversee ecological surveys including habitat classification and surveys for protected/notable species—particularly ornithology.
  • Analyse, interpret, and present ecological data using tools such as QGIS.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and subcontractors; participate in project meetings.
  • Prepare and review ecological reports including:
  • Appropriate Assessments (AA)
  • Natura Impact Statements (NIS)
  • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)
  • Biodiversity chapters for EIARs
  • Species‑specific and other environmental reports
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists within the team.
  • Assist project managers with the coordination of large‑scale projects.
  • Manage smaller projects independently.
  • Contribute to proposal development for new and existing clients.
Requirements:
  • 2–5 years’ postgraduate experience in ecology or a related discipline.
  • Qualification in ecology, environmental science, zoology, earth science, or similar.
  • Strong experience in technical report writing (AAs, NIS, EcIAs, EIAR biodiversity chapters).
  • Hands-on experience conducting ecological surveys and habitat assessments.
  • Excellent knowledge of Irish wildlife and conservation legislation.
  • Strong organisational, time‑management, and project coordination skills.
  • Collaborative and adaptable team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Full clean driver’s licence.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • MSc in a relevant field.
  • Experience working within an environmental consultancy environment.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or eligible for membership).
