The caretaker for Freshford Tidy Towns Committee is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of public spaces within the community. This role is often hands-on and community-focused, supporting the goals of the Tidy Towns initiative, which promotes environmental awareness, sustainability, and pride in local areas. ✅ Main Purpose of the Role To ensure that the community's public areas, green spaces, and amenities are well-maintained, attractive, and safe, in line with Tidy Towns standards and environmental guidelines. Key Responsibilities 1. Grounds & Green Space Maintenance Mow grass, trim hedges, and maintain flowerbeds and planters. Plant and care for trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowers. Weed control and mulching in landscaped areas. Watering plants during dry periods. 2. Litter Control Regularly collect litter from streets, parks, and public spaces. Empty public bins and report damaged or overflowing bins. Assist with community clean-up events. 3. Maintenance of Public Amenities Inspect and maintain seating areas, picnic tables, and signage. Carry out minor repairs (painting benches, fixing signs). Report larger issues to the committee (broken playground equipment, vandalism). 4. Environmental & Sustainability Work Help implement recycling and waste reduction initiatives. Assist with biodiversity projects (wildflower areas, pollinator habitats). Support sustainable planting and composting programs. 5. Seasonal and Event Support Prepare areas for festivals, parades, and Tidy Towns judging day. Install and maintain decorations, banners, or temporary signage. 6. Health & Safety Ensure safe use and storage of tools and equipment. Report hazards and maintain safe walkways for the public.
