Optimize Recruitment, working closely with our client, are seeking a Project Engineer to join a well-established engineering consultancy based in Kilkenny City. The practice operates primarily within the public sector, delivering a strong mix of heritage, conservation, public realm and commercial projects across Kilkenny and the wider Southeast.While the initial appointment is at Project Engineer level, the role is very much structured with progression in mind. The successful candidate will be supported to develop into a Project Manager position, taking ownership of projects from early design and planning stages through to delivery and completion.The consultancy employs approximately 20–25 staff and offers a collaborative, professional working environment with strong mentorship, long-term career development, and exposure to varied, technically interesting projects.Responsibilities
- Assist in managing projects from early concept through completion
- Coordinate with clients, design teams, and external stakeholders
- Support delivery of public sector and heritage-led developments
- Prepare reports, technical documentation, and project updates
- Monitor programme, quality standards, and regulatory compliance
- Assist with contract administration and site inspections
- Support senior engineers and project managers across live projects
- Contribute to health and safety and statutory compliance processes
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- 2+ years’ experience within consultancy or site-based construction, ideally in Ireland.
- Exposure to public sector or regulated project environments
- Strong written communication and technical reporting ability
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Organised, self-motivated, and capable of meeting deadlines
- Salary €55,000 – €60,000 depending on experience
