Dublin Dental University HospitalLibrary Assistant (Clerical Officer Level) - Full Time, Permanent PositionThe Dublin Dental University Hospital is seeking to recruit a full-time & permanent Grade III Library Assistant to join our Library team. DDUH Library is a hospital library providing services to support all DDUH activities. The overall purpose of the Library Assistant role is to assist the Librarian in the provision of excellent services to DDUH students and staff.The position reports to and is accountable to the Librarian or any other authorised designated officer that the responsibility is delegated to by the Librarian.This post is aligned with the Grade III Clerical Officer Grade which starts at €31,118 to max €48,427 (15 pt. scale) as of 1st August 2025 pay scales.Outline of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe role of Library Assistant as part of the Library Team is to support DDUH Library users.Key attributes of a successful Library Assistant are:An interest in DDUH library users, their needs and the ability to work with users at all levels.Initiative and enthusiasm, including a willingness to contribute ideas to all aspects of library work.Ability and willingness to learn new skills in a constantly changing environment.Working Hours: 35 hours per week. Working hours will vary and depend on library opening hours. Usual working hours will be Monday – Friday. Regular evening working applies during term time, usually 1-2 evenings per week.Note: Hours are subject to change depending on Library opening hours and some flexibility regarding hours of attendance will be requiredKey tasksThe role of the Library Assistant includes but is not limited to:Answer queries from students and staff in an approachable, friendly and timely manner, in person and via e-mail.Operate the library IT system (Liberty) including loans, returns, renewals and reservations.Assist library users in finding resources in all formats.Help students and staff with computer-related and printing issues.Sending of journal alert e-mails.Creating and managing new DDUH Research publications records (Endnote & Liberty).Shelving, repairing and sorting of library material.Assist with collection maintenance.Assist with document delivery services.Supervise user activities in the library.Communicate with the library team about all issues arising.Ensure all Dublin Dental University Hospital policies are adhered to assist with the development of the library’s services.Perform ad hoc office tasks and assist with projects as required.Attend all staff training and meetings as required.Perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to him/her by the Librarian.The extent and speed of change in the delivery of services is such that adaptability is essential to this level of appointment. The person chosen will be required to maintain, enhance and develop their knowledge, skills and aptitudes necessary to respond to changing situations.
