The Theatre provides a range of surgical services and this role is important in making a significant contribution, developing and maintaining best practice in Theatre services.About the roleThe role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of Theatre nursing practice. As a key member of the frontline team, the Healthcare Assistant in Theatre assist in the delivery of individualised patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. The role assists in the smooth running of the department and the provision of quality patient care. The position requires a collaborative and supportive approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the implementation of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.Admission of patients
  • Receive patients to the clinical area with courtesy.
  • Orient new patients to the clinical area and hospital environment.
  • Check the each patient bay has all the appropriate and required equipment stored correctly.
Administrative duties
  • To provide a clerical back up to the Ward/Unit Administrator and Manager.
  • The preparation of patients charts for admission and discharge / medical records.
  • To input consumable financial charges to computer or charts as appropriate.
  • Carry out other such administration duties as requested by the CNM such as date inputting on Meditech i.e. administrative admission and scheduling of patients.
  • Accurate and detailed patient information data input, personal, clinical and proposed treatment information captured on Ward/Unit systems/planners
  • First point of contact for telephone messages, and dealing with queries from health care professionals, patients and relatives.
General Duties
  • Support patients with hygiene, nutrition, mobilisation needs as required and directed.
  • Keep clinical areas and waiting areas clean and tidy.
  • Keep utility presses tidy at all times.
  • Clean spillage’s immediately according to hospital policy for specific fluid.
  • Deliver and collect messages from other departments as required
  • Move beds and furniture as required adhering to the Manual Handling policy.
  • Ensure linen cupboard and store areas are kept stocked and tidy.
  • Ensure the safe keeping of patient’s belongings in accordance with hospital policy where necessary.
  • Ensure correct laundry bags are used, tied and placed as required in laundry chute.
  • Liaise with patients and staff regarding appointments.
  • Provide empathetic and caring support to patients and carers.
  • Be willing to be deployed to other areas of the hospital if requested to do so.
  • Participate in team meetings as required.
  • Promote a patient centred culture of openness and responsiveness to positive and constructive patient feedback and ensuring patient dignity, respect and choice is maintained in their care.
About youRequirements for the ideal candidate:
  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent
  • You must have completed all 8 modules of your QQI level 5 in Healthcare
  • At least one year relevant experience
  • Communication & Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
