Dóchas Midwest Autism Support (registered Charity) provides services to support children and young people with Autism and their family members. It's mission is to improve outcomes for those impacted by Autism in the Mid-West Region. The Daily Role of an Autism Support Assistant in Dóchas Autism is to assist the Programme Coordinator and wider team in the delivery of activity programmes for young people and children we support. You will gain practical experience in the following tasks: Working as part of a team. Participant will gain hands on experience dealing with vulnerable children & adults, this would mean that the participant must treat the participants with the utmost respect and equality. Developing programmes and activities for Autistic Young People. Developing an understanding of how a busy Disability Centre operates. This work experience placement will provide you with a broad and meaningful range of practical workplace experience within Dóchas Midwest Autism Support. There will be many opportunities to learn new and practical skills which will be advantageous within any practical workplace. This placement experience will enhance your potential ability in order to obtain future full time work. Dóchas Autism commits to actively demonstrate full commitment to support you as the placement participant, by providing learning, training and work experience. The work placement participant will not work unsupervised or unsupported for any period of the work day in Dóchas Autism.Role Description This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring in the following: Informal Training: • Lead by example: the participant will learn how to have a sense of purpose and be capable of performing duties at a high standard, fully supported by their mentor. • Know your subject: the participant will get to know the subject in which they are providing support to. • Get to know your learners: the participant will be able to build a working relationship with the clients. It will need to be a co-operative effort. • Encourage engagement: the participant will learn how to get develop an understanding of communicating with people with Autism. • Approach training strategically: the participant will develop their training in tandem with their work experience so that they will develop fully for future work opportunities. Formal Training: • Specific training: Autism awareness • Manual handling & fundamental movement skills. • Health & Safety in the workplace. • COVID Protocols. Other training: on request of participant.
