Our client provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities to empower people with disabilities to live self-directed lives in an equal and inclusive society. Each person is supported and valued within an environment which promotes their overall autonomy, health and wellbeing and enables them to reach their potential.The RoleWe are seeking a qualified Person In Charge (PIC) to ensure that the service is run in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and guidelines, national legislation including Health Act 2007 and HIQA regulations, providing a home from home for the supported people.Key Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the overall general direction of the running of the designated centre
  • Ensure that the supported people are provided with a home-like atmosphere and that their health, recreational and other needs are adequately catered for
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individuals that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence
  • Manage and monitor the annual budget, including staffing and all aspects of expenditure within the centre, and operate within approved budgets
  • Work with the Finance Department in developing annual budgets that support the designated centre and operational plans
  • Ensure appropriate accounting procedures are in place for the management of residents’ accounts and personal monies in keeping with their capacity and personal arrangements, and ensure effective safeguards are in place in respect of residents’ personal finances
  • Help create and contribute to an atmosphere in which supported people are encouraged to develop individual styles, independence skills, and make personal choices
  • Use person-first language in verbal and written communication
  • Ensure the service is fully compliant with national legislation including Health Act 2007 and HIQA regulations
  • Manage the development and implementation of person-centred programmes that reflect the individual aspirations and needs of each supported person
  • Liaise with staff in other centres and appropriate professional support staff, ensuring that parents and other visitors to the group home are attended to with tact and consideration
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for service provision through the implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, risk management systems, and all relevant regulations
  • Foster the participation of supported people in activities within the community and develop awareness of, and contact with, the group home among members of the local community
  • Co-ordinate the administration, supervision, and recording of prescribed medication in line with medication policies and procedures
  • Prepare and implement rosters and manage them in line with approved budgets, supported people’s needs, and skill mix, keeping these under review with the team and Area Service Manager as required
  • Be responsible for the management and supervision of permanent and relief staff of all grades, ensuring professional and work practices consistently meet required standards, identifying and pursuing staff development and training needs, and rostering staff to attend scheduled training as required
  • Undertake staff development and support meetings with all staff working in the centre in line with agreed guidelines
Essential Criteria
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management or supervisory role in the area of health or social care
  • A Level 7 or higher health-related third-level qualification on the Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework in nursing, social care, or health science
  • NMBI registration
  • A relevant management qualification
  • A proven track record of managing a residential service that meets quality and regulatory/legislative requirements
  • A proven track record of budget management
  • Experience in report writing, personal support plans, people management, and roster management
  • Full current driving licence
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements and responsibilities
