- Accurately register all patients on the Patient Information System (Meditech), ensuring complete and up-to-date demographic, insurance, and clinical data.
- Ensure all registration documentation is completed correctly, including consent forms and financial agreements.
- Collect and process payments at the point of registration, issue receipts, and ensure accurate entry into the billing system.
- Monitor and verify the accuracy of registration details to ensure alignment with clinical and billing requirements.
- Verify patients’ insurance cover at point of registration or pre-admission, including policy type, level of cover, and approval requirements.
- Work with the main health insurance providers in Ireland, including:
- Vhi Healthcare
- Irish Life Health
- Laya Healthcare
- HSF Health Plan
- GloHealth (now part of Irish Life Health)
- Aviva (legacy policies)
- Confirm pre-authorisation status where required (e.g., inpatient, radiology, day care procedures).
- Accurately record all insurance details and ensure any restrictions, exclusions or co-payments are communicated to patients.
- Liaise with the Insurance & Billing Department to ensure seamless handover and alignment with hospital revenue procedures.
- Manage billing processes in line with hospital protocols, ensuring all patient charges are accurately applied and invoiced.
- Work closely with the finance and billing teams to ensure timely and accurate revenue capture.
- Support revenue assurance processes through diligent attention to patient data and service records.
- Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the ED, Admissions, and across various departments.
- Communicate efficiently with internal teams to coordinate patient movement, including transfers to:
- Inpatient Wards
- Theatre
- Daycare
- Oncology Day Unit
- Radiology
- Phlebotomy
- Outpatient Services
- Ensure timely communication of patient arrival, movement, and discharge to the appropriate clinical and administrative teams.
- Provide a welcoming and professional front-of-house experience for patients and families.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in all interactions.
- Handle queries and concerns promptly and escalate issues to relevant departments as necessary.
- Minimum of 2 years' administration experience in a fast-paced healthcare or clinical setting.
- Experience in patient registration, billing, and insurance verification is essential.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems (e.g., Meditech) is highly desirable.
- Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team across multiple service areas.
